We’d love to see you face-to-face and give you the opportunity to observe and team teach with one our experienced colleagues - to double check that this is the career route for you.

 We offer a series of webinars where you can hear from our young Early Career Teachers (ECTs).

Check whether you meet the following entry requirements:

An undergraduate degree, or equivalent

Your degree subject should be the subject you are intending to follow at PGCE/QTS level or similar. If this is not the case, you will need to prove your subject knowledge in some other way

Grade 4 (C) or above in English & Maths or equivalent qualifications

We will consider candidates with pending GCSEs

We will consider candidates who need to take a GCSE equivalency test in English or Maths (You will be expected to fund your equivalency tests with a recognised third party).

Alternatively, go directly through the DfE Apply portal at Apply for teacher training - GOV.UK. Both options will require you to register. Follow the steps to apply. 

Once your application has been reviewed, if successful, you will be invited to a face-to-face recruitment day at one of our schools in Wigan. You will undergo several activities, including an interview, and tasks to ascertain your suitability for the course. 

We will inform you as soon as possible if you are successful. Whether you secure a place or not, you will always receive specific, developmental feedback about how you have done.

 

We are an inclusive provider, committed to supporting trainees with disabilities and other needs. We strive to provide appropriate support in collaboration with the University of Cumbria. All Wigan Institute of Education settings provide access for trainees with mobility impairments. Specific mobility issues for schools will be addressed in collaboration with you.

The University of Cumbria offer support for students studying with disabilities:

They can provide you with screening for specific learning difficulties (SpLD) once you have enrolled

They can develop an action plan to ensure academic staff are aware of your individual needs and work with you to access the relevant support, either through our university or external specialist services.
