University Of Cumbria

We work closely with our partner higher education provider, the University of Cumbria, who provide expert teaching for your subjects, and for the study of educational theory and practice at masters’ level.

With over a hundred years’ experience in delivering teacher training, the university PGCE course is based at the Lancaster campus (formerly St. Martin’s College), which is easily accessible from Junction 33 of the M6.

The University of Cumbria is also partnered with the University of Warwick, making the Wigan Institute of Education the only training provider in Wigan accredited by a Russell Group university.

Tuition for subject studies takes place throughout the year, and teaching for the masters’ programme is provided locally in our training centre. Tutors from the University of Cumbria will be assigned to you to ensure your learning and training needs are met as you progress on your journey to become a qualified teacher.
